The Inside of Me

The shadow box project was intended to display our identity and our personal preferences through a box. I set myself to illustrate my complete identity by depicting all of the things I like. First of all, I chose the red and white color scheme because red consists of my favorite color, and the basic red and white color scheme has always caught my attention. Moreover, I divided the box into two- one side for my interests and favorite things, while the other side displayed my origin and culture. I used photos in the left side that represented what I liked, such as various foods, music, brands, and social networks. I selected my favorite Mexican band, Banda Ms. I displayed a soccer ball because I have a passion for the sport, and it also represents a part of me since I was young. The mini, classical Volkswagen represents the car I have in Mexico, and I'm proud of having that type of car because it had always been my dream to have that car. On the side, I included quotes that inspire me daily to succeed. I tried to portray my motivation and perseverance through accomplishments I've achieved thus far. I included a picture of Quest Bridge and Chicago Scholars because I am now a part of those programs. On the right side, I included my beloved state of Mexico, which is Jalisco, the place my parents are from. However, I feel a part of it as well. I enjoy going there because I get a sense of freedom and complete happiness. I also included pictures of my Chicago pride to display my Mexican-American self. Lastly, to show the importance my family is to me, I included various photographs of special moments with my family. Most pictures were from my stay in Mexico the summer of 2013. In the right side, I also included the Virgen De Guadalupe which represents my religion.Through this shadow box, I was able to illustrate my identity and the inside of me.
